Pre-School Provision

3rd November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Windmill Hill Academy: Pre-School Offer

Thank you for your feedback during the recent consultation regarding the proposed move of the Launceston Pre-School Provision to Windmill Hill Academy. We are delighted to share that the response was overwhelmingly positive.

I am pleased to inform you that, as of today (Monday 3rd November), the Department for Education (DfE) has approved our request to extend the age range at Windmill Hill Academy. We are now officially registered to provide education for children aged 2 to 11 years.

While we are not yet ready to begin offering Pre-School provision immediately, this approval marks a significant step forward. We are working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the launch of our Pre-School, and we are hopeful that we will be ready to welcome children from the start of the Spring Term in January.

This move will allow children and staff from Launceston Pre-School to transition to Windmill Hill Academy and we also look forward to offering additional places to families in our local community.

As previously shared, this transition from Launceston Pre-School to Windmill offers several key benefits:

  • Financial Sustainability: The current pre-school building is no longer financially viable due to high overhead costs. Relocating to Windmill Hill Academy will significantly reduce these expenses.
  • Improved Educational Continuity: Being based on the same site as the primary school will support smoother transitions and greater consistency in teaching and learning.
  • Enhanced Facilities: Children will benefit from access to a wider range of resources and learning environments.
  • Staffing Flexibility: In the event of staff absence, familiar school staff can provide cover, reducing reliance on external supply agencies.
  • Wraparound Care: Children will have access to breakfast and after-school clubs, as well as lunch facilities.

We believe this move will provide a more enriching, stable and sustainable environment for both children and staff.

Thank you for your continued support and we will continue to keep you informed.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Bassett
