Winning Hearts; Inspiring Minds
At Windmill Academy we believe in providing a broad range of PE and Sport that will change young lives for the better and develops a healthy active lifestyle.
At Windmill Hill Academy we have many PE and Sport opportunities and this year will see us continue to work hard at improving our provision; which children will be given every chance to be a part of. We believe that PE and Sport is important to the school and will look at giving children as much time as possible to be active. During playtime and lunchtime equipment is provided and there will be chance to take part in an inter school league. There will also be a local league in both football and netball as well as our continued involvement at Callington. Swimming will also be provided for years 1 - 6 with each class receiving lessons for two half terms.
There is a variety of sports running on a weekly basis which include:
Football, Netball, Cross country and Green Mat Bowls for key stage two. There is also a multi-skills club for key stage one.
There are opportunities for children to participate in dance and gymnastics at Launceston College and once again Y11 PE students will be running a competitive afternoon for all children in KS2 later in the year.
As stated above we will have school football, netball, hockey, cricket and cross country teams this year which will compete in a range of inter school events.
Primary School Sport Premium
Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January 2013. All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. Our school receives around £9,000 per school year.
Our focus this year has been on improving the staff confidence in teaching outdoor education and competitive games. This has been through the purchase of equipment and coaches to support the staff in building confidence. The funding has also been used to offer a week of extra swimming lessons to support non-swimmers from lower key stage 2. We are SLA members of the Sports Partnership ARENA, which has provided ongoing professional development. Our sports partnership with Launceston College has given pupils opportunities to attend festivals and tournaments with other local schools
